I was still finding myself as a painter when I did this in mid 2013. I had no real direction. I was new here in Florida, and was grasping for subject matter. I was painting things I was seeing around me rather than things I knew and had real appeal to me. You can see elements of my current style, but no real cohesion.
It would be a couple of months after I painted this until I walked into Vatican City Vinyl and met Christian Downing and Katie Booth. They provided me with the first vinyl records with which to paint. Walking into their store with the sole intention of buying a turntable and a few records, led to something I could never imagine. I owe them a great deal of thanks. They occupy a large area of my heart.
If there is any advice I can give to an artist trying to find direction, it is this:
Paint what you know. Paint that which brings you joy, and is close to your heart. The rest will follow if you are true to yourself.
I appreciate you bird, but I really did not love you. You were however, essential in this strange trip. I do thank you for that. You can fly away now. I found what I was looking for.
